Davis Jumps Onto Podium At Concord In PASS Late Model
Dawsonville Driver Takes Third-Place at Legendary Half-Mile
It's been a while since Spencer Davis has raced a Super Late Model, but that didn't keep him from scoring a podium finish in racing's return to Concord Speedway in North Carolina.  The Dawsonville, Georgia native started fourth and did himself one better, finishing third on Friday night in the PASS South Super Late Model Series 125-lap event.

"It's really cool to jump back in the late model and get a third-place finish," said the 16-year-old driver.   "We came out with a good run.”

Davis had legendary Super Late Model crew chief, Freddie Query calling the shots from the spotter's stand on Friday night and that helped him a lot as he tried to learn the race track.

"We fell back early because I'm still learning this track," Davis said.  "I was adjusting my line to what Freddie thought I needed."

Midway through the race the car finally came to Davis and he shot up through the field.  While he was able to battle up front, he got no higher than third where he would finish.

The same couldn't be said for the KOMA Modified Tour 125-lap feature.  Davis started fourth in that race and tried to employ the same conservative strategy, but it saw different results as he only finished ninth.

"When it was time to pick up the pace I didn't have anything left," said Davis.  "I was just slipping and sliding.  We finished on the lead lap because we got the lucky dog there.  We at least came home in one piece."

Now Davis heads north with the Hill Enterprises No. 79 team.  He'll be back in the Tour-Type Modified for a 161-lap NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl (CT) on Saturday, May 30.

"I'm excited to head back to Waterford," Davis said.  "We didn't have a great result there last year, but it's a tough track and that was my first start there.  Now that I know what to expect I'm looking forward to going back.  It's a cool race track."
