Davis Struggles to Find Lady Luck on Way to 13th-Place Finish at Caraway
Hillbilly Racing Team Eyeing New Paint Scheme at Next Event
Spencer Davis has made tremendous progress during his rookie season on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, but lately the 15-year-old driver has struggled to find lady luck on his side.  The trend of bad luck continued on Saturday for Davis and the No. 79 Hillbilly Racing Team.

The Dawsonville, Georgia native fought an ill-handling race car throughout the 150-lap NWMST event at Caraway Speedway (NC) before finishing two laps down in the 13th position.

“It was one of those nights,” said Davis.  “We tried
something different tonight.  We’ve just been
struggling a little bit.  We have our panhard bar a
different way now.  Instead of having it on the left
side, we have it on the right side and we’re just
struggling to find grip on entry.  It’s heartbreaking to
run like this after how much progress we’ve made
this season.”

After qualifying ninth, Davis started to charge towards
the front early in the event before a number of drivers checked up in front of him forcing him to lock up the brakes and spin.  From there on out, the handling on the 21 Means 21 Pontiac went away and the Georgia driver was forced to fight the car the rest of the way.

Davis will return to Caraway next weekend for another shot at the .455-mile North Carolina oval.  If all goes well, the team is hoping to bring a new car and a new paint scheme to the track.  Instead of the orange colors fans have seen on the David Hill-owned No. 79 the past few seasons, the team is going to go back to their pink colors for the last two races of the season.

“The new car is going to be here if we get it back in time,” said Davis.  “If we can get the new car done, we’re definitely going to bring the new paint scheme.  It’s going to mean a lot to the Hill’s and me personally.”
