Davis Finishes Ninth in North-South Shootout at Caraway
15-Year-Old Driver Qualifies Third Before Battling Handling During Race
The 12th Annual John Blewett III North-South Shootout weekend at Caraway Speedway (NC) started out very promising for 15-year-old Spencer Davis.  At the end of the weekend, Davis was left to wonder what could have been.

After a great qualifying run on Friday afternoon, which earned him the third starting spot, the Dawsonville, Georgia driver fought the handling on his No. 79 Coors Light 21 Means 21 Pontiac throughout the race on Sunday.  He would cross under the checkered flag in the ninth position.

"We started the race and had some problems with stagger," Davis said.  "It just kept closing up on us.  We fought that the whole day.  When you lose stagger
the car just gets tight.  When you can't get it back
you throw the book at it."

The team got the car better near the end of the race,
but it was too little, too late for Davis' hopes at
scoring the win.

"We just couldn't rebound like how we qualified
there, but we brought it home in the top ten," Davis
said. "It wasn’t the best finish, but it also wasn’t the
worse.”

Throughout the weekend, Davis thought he fared well against some of the best drivers in Modified racing that the North and South had to offer.  This year's Rookie of the Year for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will be making more than a few starts on the northern tour and his run on Sunday at Caraway has him even more excited to race against them.

"I'm really excited to be running against the northern guys more next year when we come up there," he said.  "I see that's where the really good competition is at.  Being a competitor, I want to be up against the best competition every time I get behind the wheel.”

Up next for Davis will be another prestigious Modified event, the Turkey Derby at Wall Stadium (NJ) on November 29.
