Davis Ends Busy Weekend with Top-Five in All-American 400 Tune Up
Georgia Driver Pumped Up for NWMST Return to South Boston on Saturday
Spencer Davis ended a busy weekend that included three races in three days with a fifth-place finish in the Pro Late Model 100 held at Faigrounds Speedway Nashville (TN) Sunday afternoon. Davis, who was making just his second Pro Late Model start since winning the 2014 Pro Late Model championship during New Smyrna Speedweeks, is hoping that his top-five
finish will lead to a strong finish in the upcoming
All-American 400 at the track.
“I’m very happy with the run,” said Davis. “We started
16th and had a car that was good on both the top
and the bottom of the racetrack. We worked our way
towards the front and were able to pick off a few
more cars there at the end on the
green-white-checkered finish. I’m happy with the
top-five run. I think we learned a lot for when we
come back for the All-American 400 with this same car.”
Davis has had plenty of success in a Pro Late Model during his young career. The 15-year-old won two Pro Late Model events during the 48th Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna (FL) earlier this season. Adding an All-American 400 win to his resume would mean a lot to the Dawsonville, Georgia driver.
“We have a few things to work on and a few things that we learned based up our performance this weekend, but I’m encouraged going back there for the 400,” Davis said. “That race is one of the crown jewels in Late Model racing and it would be great to have that win on my resume moving forward.”
In addition to his top-five finish at Nashville on Sunday afternoon, Davis also competed in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour event at Caraway Speedway (NC) on Friday night and the Southern Super Series event at Montgomery Speedway (AL) on Saturday night. He recorded 15th-place finishes in both events.
“We had an awesome run going at Caraway in the Hillbilly Racing No. 79 until we had rear end problem,” said Davis. “We had a great qualifying run and were in position to record a solid top-five finish. It’s unfortunate, but I think we’ve proven that we’re ready to compete for top-fives on a consistent basis.”
Next up for Davis will be the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour event at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Virginia on Saturday, September 13. He had a great run going at the Virginia oval earlier this year and battled within the top-10 before tangling with another competitor. Going back to the track with good notes in hand, Davis is confident that the No. 79 21 Means 21 Pontiac will be set up for a strong run.
“We had an awesome car there last time,” said Davis. “I’m so happy to be going back to South Boston. I really like that track and can’t wait for the race on Saturday. To top it off, a representative from Coors will be there so we’ll have plenty of support going into the weekend.”
