Davis finishes Fourth in KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series Debut
Georgia Driver Leads Early, Battles Late for Top-Five finish at Hickory
Spencer Davis was on a mission during the inaugural KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series event at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC) on Saturday night.  The Dawsonville, Georgia driver, who started in the eighth position, set the tone early be rocketing to the front of the field by lap 20.

Davis led a number of laps and competed within the top-three for the length of the event before an unclear mandatory pit stop rule forced Davis to bring his No. 79 to pit road late in the race.  The 16-year-old Hillbilly Racing driver handled the adversity and claimed a very respectable fourth place finish when the checkered flag was waved.

“It’s a bummer knowing we were this fast and ran this good of a race and were in the lead, but I’m excited with how the team performed,” Davis said following the race. “Today was a real good team building day.  There was a lot of team bonding with me, Mr. David (Hill) and the whole crew.”

On his way to the front, Davis worked his way by Modified stars Burt and Jason Myers and Tim Brown.  Making the pass on Brown was one of the most memorable parts of the event for the 16-year-old rising star.

“Probably the most notable part was going from the eighth starting spot and passing ‘The Rocket,' the legend Tim Brown, under green, down low and clearing him,” said Davis. “Fifteen laps, eighth to first. That was pretty exciting.”

Davis will now refocus his efforts back to the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour this upcoming weekend when the Hillbilly Racing team heads back to Caraway Speedway (NC) on March 29.  Earlier this season, Davis was very competitive in the NWSMT event at Caraway before a broken trailing arm spoiled the team’s finish.

“Real high expectations going into next week, especially as good as the car was today,” Davis said about this upcoming weekend.  “We’ve got tons and tons of notes for this upcoming weekend from previous testing.  I can’t wait to go back there for a second time.  Morale is very high going into Caraway.”
