Davis Finishes 11th in First Career NWSMT Start at Langley
Georgia Driver Battles Within Top-10 Before Battling Handling Issues
15-year-old Spencer Davis continued his journey towards the 2014 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Rookie of the Year crown with an 11th place finish in his first career NWSMT race at Langley Speedway (VA) on Saturday afternoon.

The 16-year-old driver qualified in the 14th position and marched foward during the early stages of the event on his way to battling within the top-10 for most of the event.

“We started off pretty good,” said Davis.  “We just went way too far on the adjustments after qualifying for being loose.  There was way too much forward drive up off the corner.  We tried everything including trying different lines.  I was running a crazy line trying to run the pack I was trying to catch back down.”

The Hillbilly Racing Team made adjustments to the No. 79 during the halfway break that allowed Davis to make some progress and nearly put himself in a position to get the “Lucky Dog” during a late race caution.

“We were in the position right before the second to last caution to get the lucky dog, but they reverted back to the last lap and we didn’t get it,” Davis said.  “It wasn’t the night we wanted at the end but I think we still gained a couple of spots in points.”

Next up for Davis and the Hillbilly Racing Team will be the Bunny Hop 150 at Caraway Speedway (NC) on April 29.  Davis will enter the event 11th in the overall NWSMT point standings and just four points back in the battle for Rookie of the Year.

"Expectations are really high going into Caraway," Davis said.  "I think we’re going to run real good with the notes and the car setup we have."
