Davis Takes Runner Up Honors in JEGS CRA All-Stars Tour SpeedFest 125
Mechanical Failure Ends Davis ARCA/CRA Super Series SpeedFest 200 Day Early
Spencer Davis and his No. 129 team went
to Watermelon Capital Speedway (GA) this
weekend looking to bring home the trophy
in both the SpeedFest 125-lap Pro Late
Model and 200-lap Super Late Model
portions of the event.

In the JEGS CRA All-Stars Tour Pro Late Model
125 Davis was up to second on the final restart after working his way through the field.

“We started the Pro Late Model race 13th, which put us in a bad spot," said Davis.  "You’re just borderline with the crazies at the back of the field.  We got going and got up to ninth but we couldn’t get that extra bit to get up there because of all the cautions we had.  Then with 25 to go they quit counting cautions and it just seemed like we kept getting closer and closer to the front and I was thinking to myself, 'okay, top-10 I’ll be good.'  And then that went to, 'Oh top-five, we could pull that off.”  Then it was top-three then it was, ‘I could maybe win this thing if we get the right restart.’”

Second was as far as Davis would make it after a late-race incident almost dashed all hope.

“I think if we could have been second a lot earlier in the race we would have had something for Nemechek (winner),” said Davis.  “But man his stuff could just go on the start.  To tell you the truth I was struggling after running off the track there at the end and we didn’t have a car capable of finishing second but we did and I’m grateful for that.”

The 200-lap Super Late Model portion of the SpeedFest weekend didn’t quite go to plan for Davis and his team as a mechanical failure before the drop of the green flag kept them from the event.

“We struggled in qualifying in the Super Late Model car,” said Davis.  “We changed everything under it and came into Sunday with high hopes for it and the Pro car hoping we had everything figured out.  We strapped in and got going and I was swerving my tires and the power steering hose just busted.  We thought we could maybe fix it but it was broken beyond repair.”

Next on Davis’ schedule will be the PASS Super Late Model event at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) on Saturday, February 8.
