Spencer Davis to Chase Speedweeks Title in Hillbilly Racing Modified
Full Schedule of SLM & Modified Racing on the Docket for Davis at New Smyrna
A full plate of racing is nothing new for Dawsonville, Georgia’s Spencer Davis.  The 15-year-old ran upwards of 60 Pro and Super Late Model races in 2013 and 2014 is shaping up to be just the same.

Now, Davis is adding even more races to his schedule.  Davis will be competing in the 48th Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at Florida's New Smyrna Speedway next month in the Hillbilly Racing No. 79 Tour-Type Modified.  Davis will also chase the World Series championships in the Super and Pro Late Model divisions in addition to piloting the Modified that won the 2013 Speedweeks title at New Smyrna.

For Davis, the partnership with Hillbilly Racing was a long time coming following a long relationship with team owner David Hill who has followed Davis’ career from the start.

“We’ve hung around with them a lot racing trucks and stuff,” said Davis.  “David Hill, who owns the car, has seen me progress up through the different divisions over the past few years.  He’s been wanting me to drive it.  He said I was finally ready as far as experience after driving other cars.  He thinks I can handle a Modified so he called us up two weeks ago and asked if I wanted to drive it.  And we’ve been getting everything together that we needed to and called him back and said yes, let’s do it.

“We plan on running all week down there,” said Davis.  “We’ll be running for the points for the Modified unless something happens or we tear it up to where we can’t run every night.  But as far as we’ve been told and he plans on running too, we’re going to run all nine nights at Speedweeks for the Modified points.”

Although it will be a new car for Davis, the Georgia driver has no shortage of experience at the central-Florida track.  Davis posted his first win of the 2014 season just two weeks ago in the Pro Late Model division and was in contention for both the Pro and Super Late Model championships at the World Series in 2013.

“We’ve run there for I guess four years now,” said Davis.  “We went from the trucks to Pros to Supers and I think we’ve got the track figured out pretty good as far as the line and stuff goes.  Those Modifieds, to me from what I’ve seen watching them, seem about the same as a Super (Late Model); a lot of tire and a lot of motor so I believe you could run the same line and stuff and get around there pretty good.  It might take a little bit of tweaking but I think you could get it down pretty quick.”

Davis will also compete behind the wheel of his family-owned Pro and Super Late Models throughout the event as well as the PASS Super Late Model feature on Saturday February 8.
