Spencer Davis Hopes to Improve by One at Ace Speedway
After a Second and Third-Place Finish, Davis Looking For First Career Mod Win
Midway through his first season in a Tour-Type Modified, many people have already forgotten that 15-year-old Spencer Davis is still a rookie in the division.  While competing for NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Rookie of the Year honors remain Davis' top priority, he has made the best of his off time by competing in other events including KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series races, as well as weekly action at Bowman Gray Stadium (NC).

Having the additional races added to his schedule has allowed Davis to get more acquainted with the car, as well as build chemistry with the No. 79 Hillbilly Racing Team.

"It did take a little bit to get used to the Modified, but it seems like I've been able to get acquainted with it pretty well," said Davis.  "It also helps having an awesome team like the Hillbilly Racing Team that is always on their A-game.  Knowing that the car is going to be at it's best gives me a lot of confidence."

This weekend Davis will continue that trend when he heads to Ace Speedway (NC) for the third KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series events of 2014.  After finishing third in his first KOMA event and second in his second event with the series, Davis is hoping to continue the trend of improving by one this Saturday.

"We've had a third and second-place finish so far.  We've been getting one spot better.  I've got my first pole out of the way in the KOMA series and a Modified, so now we're just searching for that win. We've been super close both times."

After a few scoring issues in the first two KOMA series events that may or may not have impacted Davis' finishes, he hopes those issues are figured out and he can visit victory lane when the checkered flag flies.

"They've had some scoring issues that have happened, but hopefully they'll have it resolved and maybe we can be the one that walks out with the trophy at Ace."
