Davis Rebounds From Friday Wreck to Finish Sixth at Bowman Gray
15-Year-Old Makes His Way Up Through The Field After Wreck the Night Before
Spencer Davis returned to Bowman Gray Stadium (NC) this past weekend for a pair of 100-lap Modified features at the place they call "The Madhouse".  After a wreck on the frontstretch relegated Davis to a 25th-place finish on Friday, Davis and the Hillbilly Racing No. 79 team responded by charging from the 21st position to finish sixth in a wild Modified feature on Saturday.

Throughout the weekend, Davis showed speed on the race track, but the wreck on Friday night threw a curveball at he and his team.  Working through
the night and into the morning on Saturday,
the team finished repairs on the car in time
for practice and qualifying.

After a subpar qualifying run, Davis' starting
position was determined by a random draw,
which resulted in a 21st starting position.

Throughout the 100-lap event, the
Dawsonville, Georgia driver made his way up
through the field before making a bid to crack
the top-five on the final lap.  As he made the move for fifth, the scuffle seen around the short track racing world between Junior Miller and Burt Myers took place forcing Davis into the grass.  He was able to continue home and cross under the checkered flag in the sixth position.

“We rebounded big time from Friday night's deal, " said Davis.  "Besides the draw the day was real, real good.  We came up through the field and got up front right there at the end.  We were having to use the bumper quite a bit, but we got right up front at the end.  I was making the move for firth when Burt and Junior got together.  We went through the infield and wound up sixth.  It was a real good day overall.  We had an awesome race car."

Davis and the Hillbilly Racing Team will return to Bowman Gray Stadium this Saturday night, June 7 for twin 25-lap Modified features.  With a little bit of luck on their side, Davis is hoping that this may be the weekend he wins his first Modified feature.

“I’ve got my first pole in a Modified out of the way, so now we’re just searching for that win.  We’ve came super close and there’s been a few scoring issue that happened.  Maybe we can be the one that walks away with the trophy this weekend.”
