Davis Satisfied with Top Ten in Pete Orr Memorial
Steadily picked off cars throughout event
Following what he felt was a subpar run two weeks ago, Spencer Davis returned to New Smyrna Speedway with one goal in mind: to get better.

Davis started deep in the field, admittedly because
of driver error, but steadily picked off cars one at a
time en route to an eighth place finish in the Pete Orr
Memorial 100.  Being able to carve his way through
the field for the top-10 finish against a tough field of
cars left Davis proud of the how the team performed
throughout the weekend.

"I messed up a little bit in qualifying," Davis said.
"I left a little bit out there, but mistakes happen and
everyone makes mistakes.  We started 13th and
gained three positions before the first caution.  We
finished eighth, but the car was a lot better than the
time before.  We have taken a huge step because we
came and tested.  We were on the same straightaway
as second place because (race winner Kyle)
Benjamin had checked out on the rest of us.  It is fun
running when you know you are getting better every
time out."

Davis was guided by interim crew chief and former World Crown 300 winner Micky Cain.  Regular crew chief David Ray took the weekend off because of a death in his family.

"We wish David the best wishes in dealing with his family loss," said Davis.  "Micky wasn't doing anything, and we needed some help.  We asked him to come with us and he was more than glad to.  He tweaked the cars and got them better from Thursday to (race day).  It's awesome to have a guy who has worked on and raced cars all his life to help me out."

Davis will be back in action on January 27 in his home state of Georgia at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, in the annual SpeedFest event.
