Year of Firsts for Spencer Davis Culminates with First Snowball Derby
Davis Also Looks to Build on Tough Run in 2011 Snowflake 100
In 2012, Spencer Davis won his first Pro Late Model race, won his first Pro Late Model championship and ran well in his first Super Late Model race.  It’s only fitting that the Dawsonville, Georgia driver should end such a season of firsts with his first attempt at the Snowball Derby.

Davis understands the magnitude and the history of
the event on Sunday, December 2 at Pensacola,
Florida’s Five Flags Speedway and knows that he
must first qualify for the 300-lap event before he can
make more history for himself.

“I’ve been watching the Snowball Derby since my dad
raced,” said Davis, who will also be competing in the
Snowflake 100 Pro Late Model race at Five Flags on
Saturday, December 1.  “It’ll be really cool to be able
to run it finally.  Hopefully we don’t have to run any
of the last chance races and we can qualify in on
time our first time in the race.

“I’m thinking more about qualifying,” said Davis.  “In the race, you get 300 laps to do what you need to be in position to win.  Before you can do that, you have to make it into the race.  And Augie (Grill, car-builder) has been really good there so that will help.  He’s won it twice.”

Davis will be making his second start in the Allen Turner Hyundai Pro Late Model Snowflake 100 and after falling out of the event in the closing stages in 2011, he is ready to go after the finish he feels he deserves.

“We were running in the top-10 last year and got caught up in a wreck on lap 86,” said Davis.  “I’m really excited about the Snowflake.  It’ll be my second year running it.  Last year, we had a good car, but it was a little too loose.  This year, we’re coming back even better and with a lot more experience.”

After running in both the Super Late Model Buddy’s Home Furnishings Blizzard Series and the Allen Turner Pro Late Model divisions at Five Flags Speedway this year, Davis feels he’s got the experience under his belt that he needs to be successful in both events.

“You get to run with a lot of really good people,” said Davis.  “There are a lot of cars there and it’s a really big accomplishment just getting into those races.  Then if you can finish them, that’s an even bigger accomplishment.  And running there this year only helps us more because now we’ve got more experience.”

The 45th Annual Snowball Derby Weekend kicks off on Wednesday, November 28 with the Cat Country/WEAR TV3 Green Flag Party.  On-track activities begin with practice on Thursday, November 29.  On Friday, November 30, it’s WXBM Pole Night, as the top 30 in Snowball Derby qualifying will be locked into Sunday’s 300-lap feature.

Then on Saturday, December 1, it’s the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 time trials, qualifying races and the 100-lap feature, plus final practice for the Snowball Derby cars and a 50-lap last-chance qualifying race for the Snowball Derby.

Finally, the 45th Annual Snowball Derby will then go green on Sunday, December 2nd at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL.
