Davis Turns Some Heads During Smyrna Speedweeks
Strong Showings in Pro Late Models and Pro Trucks
More than 30 of the North America’s best Pro Late Model drivers made the trip to New Smyrna Speedway in Florida for the 46th Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.   With drivers from Canada and all four corners of the United States vying for success in the prestigious nine-night racing affair during Florida Speedweeks, Spencer Davis and his Spencer Davis Motorsports team knew that any success found at New Smyrna would be hard-earned.

But New Smyrna success was not unfamiliar territory for Davis.  In 2011, he picked up his signature win in the Pro Truck division during Speedweeks.  He hoped to parlay that into even more accolades during the 2012 edition of the event in both the Pro Late Model and the Truck.

At the end of Speedweeks, Davis may not have made it to victory lane, but his second-place run in both the Pro Late Model on February 18th and another runner-up finish in the Truck on February 23rd made for highlights that will ignite the spark to the 2012 season that the CORE Race Products team were hoping for in New Smyrna.

“There were 32 Pro Late Models here and we finished in the top-10 just about every night.  That’s pretty good,” said Davis.  “We were pretty good with the Late Model.  We were just trying some stuff so that we know what to do later in the season.  We ran very strong, but we just couldn’t qualify very well.”

Davis made five Pro Late Model starts throughout Speedweeks.  His runner-up finish was the highlight statistic, but his three overall top-10 finishes were sparkplugs igniting his experience-building start to the season.

“I was able to use this experience and learn a lot about getting on the gas and how to get around a place like New Smyrna.  I think we all learned a lot this week and hopefully that will mean good things this season.”

In addition to the Speedweeks-best second-place finish in the Truck division, Davis brought home more solid finishes despite fighting through some mechanical woes.  Those woes threw curveballs to the team, but Davis was quick to point out his appreciation for their efforts…one crewmember in particular.

“If it wasn’t for my dad, we wouldn’t have even been out there.  He had to change the whole transmission to get us out there.  Everyone worked hard all week and I’m happy with the way everything turned out.”

Davis will next be in action with his Pro Late Model at “The Rattler,” March 2-4 at South Alabama Speedway.
