Spencer Davis Suffers SpeedFest Disappointment
Early Tangle Ruins Chances for a Strong Season-Opening Run
Spencer Davis and his Spencer Davis Motorsports team had high hopes for SpeedFest 2012.  With some solid test sessions at Watermelon Capital Speedway under their belts, Davis entered the January 29th JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour event with attainable goals of a solid season-opening finish in mind.

Unfortunately for Davis, as often does in short track racing, early misfortunes out of his control kept him from achieving those goals.

Davis was involved in a second-lap tangle in the 150-lap event.  After a few repairs, he was on a march to the front when mechanical issues crept up and eventually put him out of the race.

"We had a pretty good start and I thought we were going to be okay through that first lap," said Davis.  "Some guys got sideways, my teammate (Brandon Jones) checked up a little bit and I got checked up too, but the guys behind me weren’t able to slow down enough.  That blocked the track and tore up the car a little bit.

"I thought we were going to be okay even after that.  We could’ve been junk.   But then the water pressure gauge was all the way down.  We came in to look at that and we found out that one of the shocks wasn’t traveling at all.  We decided to call it a day after that and keep the car out of trouble for the next race."

The finish may not have been what he wanted, but Davis is not down on his chances for success in 2012.  He and the team will regroup after the SpeedFest disappointment when the 46th Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing kicks off at New Smyrna Speedway on Friday, January 17th.

Davis will be competing in the Pro Late Model division in the nine-night racing extravaganza as part of Florida Speedweeks.
