Davis Gets Solid Seat Time in Baby Rattler
29 Team Builds Momentum After Rough-and-Tumble Race
The bad luck that had hovered over Spencer Davis’ short track racing efforts in recent weeks was finally shooed away Sunday in the “Baby Rattler” 100-lap Pro Late Model event at South Alabama Speedway.  While the 16th-place finish may not have been what he hoped for going into the event, bringing the CORE Race Products No. 29 home in one piece after a rough-and-tumble race was a good way for Davis to get his 2012 season back on track.

“We had some of our bad luck finally turn over,” said Davis.  “We finally had some good luck and we were able to make some laps.  We didn’t make the right adjustment call and the car got a little too loose.  But to come out of here with a top-16 run is pretty good for us.”

Davis was in position for a top-10 finish when contact with another competitor near halfway sent him deeper in the field.  From there, he patiently worked his way through the field in a tough 100-lap feature.

“You’ve got to have the muscle and the endurance to do it.  You can’t overdrive the car, but you can’t under-drive the car.  You have to save your tires, but you still want to be fast.  It’s tricky, but it’s fun."

Davis used the 100-lap feature as a learning experience.

“You have to learn how to be patient it because you constantly want to beat the ones in front of you.  You’ve got to get yourself in a good pace and try to take what you can take at the right time.”

Earlier in the day at South Alabama, the engine expired in Davis’ No. 29 Truck and he was not able to make it to the green flag in that event.

Davis’ next race is scheduled for March 23rd, the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Blizzard Series season opener for the Super Late Models at Five Flags Speedway (FL)
