Davis Relegated to 15th in Alabama 200 After Late-Race Contact
No. 29 Team Now Looking to Regroup Before Gov Cup
Spencer Davis started his No. 29 machine seventh in Saturday night’s Pro Late Model Alabama 200 at South Alabama Speedway and ran competitively in the top-five as the field approached the final stages of the event.  Unfortunately that’s also when things got heated and late-race contact with another competitor took Davis out of contention and relegated him to a 15th-place finish.

“We had a good car all day,” said Davis.  “We ran in
the back in the first hundred laps trying to conserve
tires.  During the break, we put two tires on it and the
car took off.  We were running third and that car ran
us dirty and wrecked us going in to the corner.  Then I
let my temper get the best of me.  It’s a shame
though because we had a real good top-five car.”

For Davis, who stepped up his late model program in
2012 to take on some of the toughest competitors
in the region, it was another confidence builder to
run alongside some of the biggest names in the
sport.

“It was really cool to race all these guys,” said Davis.
“Any one of these drivers could win, first to 16th.  It felt really good to run up front and be faster than Chase Elliott, Bubba Pollard and everybody.”

Now Davis will turn his sights a little further south, to Central Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway, for the 47th Annual Florida Governor’s Cup 200 on Saturday, November 17.

“We are going to take some time off and regroup, then head to New Smyrna for the Governor’s Cup in November,” said Davis.  “I like New Smyrna.  I got my first Truck win there, and it was the first place that we ever ran really competitive in the late model.  We finished second down there at Speedweeks, and had a chance to finish good in the points until a wreck took us out.  New Smyrna is my second favorite out of all the tracks, second only to Gresham.”
