Ill Handling Car Dooms Davis’ Night at South Alabama
Young Racer Continues to Learn in Pro Late Models
One of the hardest chores in racing is predicting what will happen to a track and car once the sun goes down.

Spencer Davis found out just how difficult it is on Saturday for Diamondback 100 at South Alabama Speedway en route to a 12th place finish.  Davis was fast in the practice sessions, which were held in mid-80 degree heat.  The race, held at night when it was much cooler, didn’t go as the team wanted after they made adjustments to the car.

“We misjudged, in the heat of the day, how cool it was going to get tonight,” Davis said.  “When it cooled down, the track tightened up just a little bit more than we thought it would.”

The night got worse for the #29 team beyond the temperature change issues.  On the pit stop to make adjustments, a seal in the rear-end broke and leaked oil onto the rear tires for the remainder of the event.

Davis though, was able to smile after the race was over.  He is excited to be able to run a go-kart next weekend for his chassis manufacturer.

“Going back to where I started will be real fun,” Davis said.  “We get to race against the guys we used to run against.”

Davis’ next Pro Late Model start will be at Montgomery Motor Speedway in June.
