Spencer Davis Makes It Back-to-Back PLM Wins at Gresham
Larry Fleeman Memorial Victory Starts a GMP
Win Streak for Local Favorite
It was just last month that 13-year-old Spencer Davis captured his first Pro Late Model win in the JEGS 50-lapper at Gresham Motorsports Park.  Saturday night, Davis and his #29 CORE Race Products team started a win streak by going back to victory lane at the Jefferson, Georgia half-mile against a stout field of local regulars and outside Pro Late Model invaders.

Davis qualified his Grand American Race Car fourth, but started second after the initial inversion.  The race then went caution-free, allowing the young driver to work his way around early leader Hunter Robbins to take the top spot.  The two battled side-by-side for several laps before Davis was able to muscle his way by Robbins to take the lead just past the halfway point in the event.

“We had a really good racecar all day,” said Davis.  “It was a really hard battle there to get the lead.  I was loose the first time I tried to pass (Robbins), but I gave it two more shots.  I had to go then because Russell (Fleeman) was coming and we wanted to try to get the lead before he got to us and we were racing for second.  I didn’t want the 18 (Robbins) to get away but I didn’t want to have to rub up against him to get the lead either.”

After taking over the top spot, Davis led the remainder of the event until the checkered flag fell, but it wasn’t quite as easy as it sounds.  As the race went caution free, Davis spent much of his time at the front of the field working around lapped traffic.

“It was pretty tough when we got to the lapped cars,” said Davis.  “They were already having their own race and didn’t want to get out of the way too easily.  I’ve been there before and you’ve got to let the leaders go because if not you might end up with the short end of the stick or up in the wall later.  It was really hard, but I finally got by them and got my lead back and made it to victory lane.”

It will be a few months before Davis has the change to return to Gresham Motorsports Park to extend his win streak as the next Pro Late Model event will be October 13th.

“Multiple-time winner at Gresham Motorsports Park sounds real good to me,” said Davis.  “And we don’t come back right away, so I’ll get to hold that streak for a while.  I want to thank all of my sponsors and all of my crew for everything they do,” said Davis.  “Now I can’t wait to go out and get more of these wins.”

Next up for Davis will be the Show Me the Money Pro Late Model 100-lapper at Montgomery Motor Speedway this Saturday, August 18th.
