Spencer Davis Earns First Pro Late Model Victory at GMP
13-Year-Old Enters the Win Column
Most kids his age were likely hanging out with family or friends on a lazy Summer Wednesday night on July 18th, but 13-year-old Spencer Davis instead was writing his name into the Southeastern racing record books.

After two second place Pro Late Model finishes earlier in the season, Davis finally got what he was hoping for during his own Summer vacation when he took the checkers Wednesday night in the JEGS Pro Late Model 50 at Georgia’s Gresham Motorsports Park.

For his first win, Davis took advantage of the race’s only restart to make his move to the front and into the record books as the youngest Pro Late Model winner in Gresham Motorsports Park history.

“We started second and we had a good restart,” said Davis of his winning move.  “I rode behind (then-leader Michael Lance) and tried to find his weakness, which I did.  My car was coming in so I had to try to get him to wear out his tires.  It seemed like forever until we got by him but as soon as we did it was smooth sailing from there.”

Although the event was a landmark for his Pro Late Model career, it was not the first time Davis visited victory lane at the Jefferson, Georgia half-mile.  Davis has amassed quite an impressive resume of Pro Truck division wins at the famed oval as well as various other venues across the Southeast.

“I’ve loved this place since I first came here in a Truck a year or two ago,” said Davis.  “I raced my first World Crown in that division.  I love coming here because it’s just such a nice facility with great people.

“We’ve gotten a few more wins in the Truck this year at places like Mobile International (AL) and Huntsville (AL),” said Davis.  “But nothing compares to finally getting to victory lane with this car.  We’ve been racing all year and getting closer and closer and it just feels awesome to finally get it done.”

While it was Davis alone who performed an impressive burnout on both the front stretch and the back stretch after taking the checkered flag, he was quick to credit his racing success where due.

“I couldn’t have done this without everyone,” said Davis.  “I have to thank the best in the business, Augie Grill and everyone at Grand American Race Cars for everything they do for me.  And of course I have to thank Alex (Query) and all my guys that do all this with me.  None of it would happen without them and without my dad and CORE Race Products.”

Davis and his #29 team will now take an uncharacteristic weekend off before heading back to the Gulf Coast next weekend to join some of the toughest Pro Late Model competition around for the third round of Allen Turner PLM action at Five Flags Speedway (FL).
