Late-Race Wreck Takes Spencer Davis out of
First Blizzard Series SLM Event
Disappointing 18th-Place Finish for Davis at
Five Flags Speedway (FL)
Since stepping into a late model, every step of Spencer Davis’ career has been ahead of the curve.  Davis found success quickly in Pro Late Models, grabbing his first win at Gresham Motorsports Park over the summer, and is now chasing his first Super Late Model win.  That sort of success is partly attributed to Davis’ attitude.  The young driver holds himself to a high standard and was not pleased with simply being competitive in Friday’s 100-lapper at Five Flags Speedway.

“We had a really good car and it stayed under us the whole time,” said Davis.  “We just had no luck on those restarts.  We started high and the motor we had was a nine-to-one with so much torque that we couldn’t really get good restarts.  We figured it out, but I would still lose about a car length.  Then we got flattened out there one time when a guy drove in about three car-lengths deeper and shoved us up.  We just didn’t have any luck behind some people.  I mean, we dodged I think six wrecks and then that seventh one got us.  We were at lap 93, on the lead lap, I think around 10th when it happened.  But I mean it’s just tough luck and we all have it.”

Davis is used to racing among the best of the best in the short track world, now he wants the chance to beat them.

“We were up to 10th, and anybody in the top-10 could have won because it was all great cars up there, but some of those guys, I don’t know how they are able to go around the racetrack.  I mean, there were wrecks almost every lap and we were right there in the middle of it a lot, but luckily we got to miss it.  There are kids that are younger than me that can drive better than some of these other guys.”

Davis will look to rebound from his disappointing run this weekend when he and his No. 29 CORE Race Products team take on the final Allen Turner Pro Late Model 100-lap event of the season at the Pensacola, Florida track this Friday, September 29.

Davis’ next Super Late Model race will be the All American 400 at the famed Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tennessee on October 6.
