Spencer Davis Takes Another Step Toward Victory Lanes
Led Over 60 laps, Finished 6th At Montgomery
Spencer Davis took another step towards taking his first Pro Late Model win Saturday at Montgomery Motor Speedway(AL).  The young Georgian led over half the event and came home sixth.

Davis started from the pole after fast qualifier Hunter Robbins rolled a 10 on the invert.  From the drop of the green Davis showed he was there to put on a show.

“Everybody wants to lead every lap, but we will take a sixth place finish any day,” Davis said.  “Being out front I got to set my own pace and try to keep that gap over the guys behind me.”

Eventual race winner Mason Massey reeled in Davis and took the lead on lap 63.  Davis’ No. 29 car began to fade, which later turned out to be a near-disastrous mechanical failure.

“About 10 laps before they started really catching us, I radioed in and told them there is something wrong in the right front,” said Davis.  “I think I wore the tires out a little bit, but when we brought the car in we found the right front spindle was bad loose, about to fall off.”

Davis couldn’t help but smile when asked about racing for the win on a late race restart against one his heroes, Augie Grill.

“My dad used to take me to watch Augie Grill, and it’s really fun to race against him and Mike Garvey and the other guys,” Davis said. “They are great drivers and it’s cool to race them.”

Davis will continue looking for that first PLM win on Deep South double header weekend.  The team heads to Pensacola’s famed Five Flags Speedway in the Allen Turner Hyundai Series on June 8 and makes the haul up US 331 the next day to South Alabama Speedway’s Viper Series in Opp, AL.
