Spencer Davis Scores an Eighth at Montgomery
13-Year-Old Finishes on Lead Lap Twice Over the Weekend
Spencer Davis is making all the stereotypes about young racecar drivers untrue.  When most often people think of a 13-year-old behind the wheel of a Pro Late Model, they assume he will be too aggressive, out of control, or just plain in the way.  Davis has a humble approach to the learning curve he is dealing with each week.  Last time out in a doubleheader weekend at Five Flags Speedway (FL) and Montgomery Motor Speedway (AL), Davis persevered in tough fields for 11th and eighth-place finishes.

In both races Davis was on the lead lap, but at Montgomery he got to race with Bubba Pollard for a good portion of the race.  Later they would find that finishing eighth was a close call from disaster.

"We had a real good car tonight here at Montgomery," said Davis after Saturday’s race.  "We found out after the race the hub was loose so we could have been much better.  We also found out we were down 20 pounds on the right rear.  I like to finish in style."

Davis was pleased with the weekend and was humble about the solid finishes.  He and his crew chief Alex Query have goals each week and try not to set the bar too high, but as of right now, the team has come a long way in a short amount of time this season.

"When we first started we just wanted to make laps and to finish on the lead lap," said Davis.  "Along the way from the Snowflake last year to now we exceeded expectations.  Tonight we were racing with Bubba Pollard and that just shows that we have the ability to run good.

"Every racer wants to win, but we have to get top 10's and top five's before we can get to that," said Davis. "Once we get those we'll work on winning."

Davis will now head to Gresham Motorsports Park (GA) for one of his biggest races yet.  The second-annual Beau Slocomb Memorial 208 will feature a possible $10,000 payday.  Practice will start on Friday, April 6th and continue with qualifying and racing on Saturday April 7th.
